How To Avoid Uber’s New 1.5% Fee For Currency Conversion

As of 27th February 2025, Uber will add a 1.5% fee for currency conversions.

This means if you are travelling to another country and use Uber, you may have to pay a 1.5% fee unless you follow this quick and simple tutorial to disable this fee.
It is best to disable this setting for anyone who can get fee free FX transactions on their debit or credit card.

To avoid this fee:

• Open the app
• Click “Account” bottom right
• Select “Wallet” at the top
• Scroll down and select “Payment Method”
• Where it says “Preferred Currency”, select “No Preferred Currency”.

That is it!
This way you will not pay the 1.5% Uber currency conversion fee as they will bill you in the currency of the country you are in.
If you have a FX free card then you will not face any extra fees!
