The Railway Guardian app is a new app by the British Transport Police which is designed as an all-in-one safety app where you can report crime on public transport and at stations.
This app is new must have for train users in the UK! I really do think it is a must have as you never know when you may encounter crime.
As well as being able to report crime on the app, it also tells you about acceptable behaviour for when you are not sure if it is allowed or not. Then if that behaviour is a crime, you can continue to report it.
It also lets you share your trip with contacts, give concerns with the rail network and get access to news and guides.
This can really help as not enough people report crimes and this way it is much easier to do so. Hopefully more people download the app and report crimes when they see them.
They won’t know you reported them, so please do always report crime.
It can help stop future crimes too as many of the people that commit crimes on public transport, have done it before.
This gives people a little extra support for possible crimes.
You can already report crimes to the British Transport Police by texting 61016 or using the British Transport Police website, but the app allows for a better and more detailed way to report crimes with location services giving the exact location which is much better way than via a text message.
You will need to enable location services so that they can see where you are for when you make reports. British Transport Police does not retain or have access to any Railway Guardian app location data, so you don’t need to worry about enabling it. It is only for reports.
You can read more on the British Transport Police website.
Thanks for sharing, I knew that you got text the transport police if you saw something, but not the app, will have a look into the app 🙂
