Are you a traveller who enjoys travelling but finds it difficult to keep track of your expenses?
Thanks to technology, there are now some fantastic travel spending tracker apps that can help with this, and they all have a free plan, so no extra expense!
I love to track my expenses on my travels so that I can keep track of how much I am spending, and if you want to track them too, then this is the article for you!
There are quite a few different travel expenses apps available, and I have tried all of them over the years.
I picked the best three by features, usability as well as still being an actively updated app, and thought I would share these with you, showing their features and differences.
Some apps were no longer being updated after years or had been discontinued such as Trail Wallet and Tripcoin which were very popular and ones I had used in the past, but having not been updated in many years, I don’t think they are good enough to be on this “top apps” list.
The current top 3 are Budgy, TravelSpend and Trabee Pocket.
Wanderlog also lets you track travel expenses, although this is not it’s main feature, but I thought it was worth a mention too so I added it in case you are wanting an app that does multiple things.
These all have a free plan and Budgy is my personal favourite and is completely free, although only available on iOS.
Depending what you need, you might find a different app to be your favourite. Try them all out and find which you prefer!
Budgy

Budgy is a completely free app with no in-app upgrades.
This is my personal favourite due to that and the fact it has everything you need for FREE.
You can customise categories free and export for free, which is not free with other apps.
I personally love to rename categories which is usually a pro feature of other apps, so that is one of the main reasons, plus it’s a great app!

TravelSpend

TravelSpend has a free and paid plan.
This is a good app, but is limited by the paywall. This would be my favourite if it was fully free.
You can’t edit categories or export for free.
You can split costs with your friends, for if you are travelling with others and backup your expenses.
Paid features: Custom Categories, Attach Places & Photos, Search & Filter, CSV Export, Add Income, Add Own Exchange Rates, Unlimited Active Trips, Monthly Statistics.

Trabee Pocket

Trabee Pocket has a free and paid plan. Again, you can’t rename categories or export for free in this app either. You can backup your expenses.
Paid features: Multi-currency support, Customize categories (icons, colours, order), Expense usage statistics, Export to PDF or CSV files.

Wanderlog

Wanderlog is a travel itinerary tracker, but it also lets you track your travel expenses too so I thought I would add it to this list for those that like one app to do multiple things.
I use Wanderlog for making my travel itinerary as it is amazing for that, but it does let you track travel expenses too!
If you don’t want a dedicated travel expense app and would prefer to use an itinerary planner, this is the app for you.
I personally use Budgy for expenses and Wanderlog for all my itinerary.
One thing to note is that Wanderlog does not operate free offline. It is only online for free, or you need to pay for their pro plan.
Try them out and see which is best for you. We all want different things from apps as we do things differently, so try them all out as they are free, and find your favourite.
Have you tried any of these? If so, which is your favourite? Let us know in the comments!
I had no idea that there were so many useful apps to use while traveling (or planning to travel), they certainly seem to offer an opportunity to make the most of getting out and about on vacation while also keeping track of expense. If/when I start going on my travels again, I will have to download some of these!
