Top Travel Expense Tracking Apps

Are you a traveller who enjoys travelling but finds it difficult to keep track of your expenses?

Thanks to technology, there are now some fantastic travel spending tracker apps that can help with this, and they all have a free plan, so no extra expense!

I love to track my expenses on my travels so that I can keep track of how much I am spending, and if you want to track them too, then this is the article for you!

There are quite a few different travel expense apps available, and I have tried several of them over the years. I picked some of the best by features, usability as well as whether they are still being actively updated, and thought I would share these with you, showing their features and differences.

Some apps were no longer being updated after years or had been discontinued, such as Trail Wallet and Tripcoin, which were very popular and ones I had used in the past. Having not been updated in many years, I don’t think they are good enough to be on this list.

The apps I am looking at are TravelSpend, Trabee Pocket and Wanderlog.

Wanderlog also lets you track travel expenses, although this is not its main feature, but I thought it was worth a mention too in case you are wanting an app that does multiple things.

All of these have a free option, although some features are limited unless you pay. Depending what you need, you might find a different app to be your favourite. Try them out and find which you prefer!

TravelSpend

TravelSpend has a free and paid plan.

This is a good app for keeping track of your travel spending. You can add expenses as you go, set a trip budget and track your spending. It also works offline, which is useful when travelling and you don’t have an internet connection. Foreign currencies can be added and automatically converted to your home currency.

You can also split costs with your friends, so if you are travelling with others you can keep track of who owes who. Your expenses can also be synced between devices.

The free version does have some limitations though, so if you want all the features you will need the paid plan.

Paid features: Custom Categories, Attach Places & Photos, Search & Filter, CSV Export, Add Income, Add Own Exchange Rates, Unlimited Active Trips, Monthly Statistics, See & Settle Debts.

Trabee Pocket

Trabee Pocket has a free and paid plan.

It is a simple app for keeping track of your travel spending and lets you see how much you have spent and how much you have left from your budget. You can add expenses quickly, add notes and photos, set a budget and keep track of your spending by category.

You can also use multiple currencies and set your own exchange rates, although some of the more advanced features are part of the Pro version. It also works offline and can sync your data.

Paid features: Place Tagging, Multi-currency support, Customize categories (icons, colours, order), Expense usage statistics, Export to PDF, CSV or Excel files.

Wanderlog

Wanderlog is a travel itinerary tracker, but it also lets you track your travel expenses too, so I thought I would add it to this list for those that like one app to do multiple things.

I use Wanderlog for making my travel itinerary as it is amazing for that, but it also lets you track travel expenses and create a budget for your trip. You can add expenses in different currencies and see your spending in your home currency.

If you don’t want a dedicated travel expense app and would prefer to use an itinerary planner, this is the app for you.

One thing I really like about Wanderlog is that it does so much more than just track expenses. You can plan your itinerary, add places, organise your trip and keep everything together in one app.

Wanderlog has a free version and a paid Pro version, although the expenses feature is free. The free version lets you track expenses and use the budgeting features, including tracking your expenses offline. General offline access to your trip plans is a Pro feature.

I personally use Wanderlog for all my itinerary planning, and it is a great option if you want one app that can do lots of different things rather than having a separate app for everything.

Try them out and see which is best for you. We all want different things from apps as we do things differently, so try them out and find your favourite.
